Skill development, fun and fair play are the RCBA's main goals for players in this division. The league regularly evaluates its programs to ensure these goals are met.
Registration Opens August 1st
Registration Closes November 22nd
Evaluations November 24th
Pre-Season Tournament: December 8th & 9th
Regular Season Start Date: January 7th
Playoffs: March 29th-31st
Teams are partially drafted based on an evaluation process. Independent evaluators will assess the skill level of each player at an evaluation day. Skills that are evaluated include: shooting, height, 2 on 2, and 5 on 5. ALL PLAYERS MAKE A TEAM REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY EVALUATED If ENOUGH COACHES ARE SECURED
Boys will be divided into a grade 9 and grade 10-12 division. The RCBA reserves the right to combine the grade 9 and the grade 10-12 division if registration numbers are insufficient to maintain 2 divisions.
The format will be 5 on 5. There is no zone defense. Man to Man pressing is allowed. The game sessions are 75 minutes in length
Scores are kept and displayed. If there is a point differential of more than 25 points the coaches have the option to discontinue showing the score. Scores will only be recorded for standings up to a 25 point differential, which discourages any team from trying to run up the score.
All teams make the playoffs and will receive a minimum of two games.
When drafting teams we take into account any player placement requests, nights of availability for each player, their evaluation results and any other activities they participate in. The league does everything possible to accommodate player placement requests while distributing the skill levels evenly across all the teams
Team practices will be held at the same time in the same facility each week for 1 1/2 hours. Teams will play weekly on Sundays for 1 1/2 hours between 11:30am and 9:00pm. Times can change from week to week.
The following is provided to the player at the beginning of the season:
Team jersey (must be returned at conclusion of season)
What is Needed for the Season:
Non marking runners, shorts and a water bottle. Basketballs will need to be provided by the player. Ball size used will be a size 7 AKA a 29.5. The RCBA sells these balls in a variety of price ranges.
Coaches are always needed for teams. If you are interested in coaching your child's team (no experience necessary) the RCBA will provide training and tools to help new coaches. For more information on coaching in the RCBA please visit our Coaches Area.
