Skill development, fun and fair play are the RCBA's main goals for players in this division. The league regularly evaluates its programs to ensure these goals are met.
Registration Opens August 1st
Registration Closes September 16th
Evaluations: Girls September 22nd and Boys September 23rd
Practices begin week of October 1st
Games begin October 20th
Playoff Dates: March 1st-3rd
Teams are drafted based on an evaluation process. Independant evaluators will assess the skill level of each player at an evaluation day. Skills that are evaluated include: layups, shooting, agility and quickness, height, 2 on 2, and 5 on 5. ALL PLAYERS MAKE A TEAM REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY EVALUATED
The format will be 5 on 5. There is no zone defense. Man to Man pressing is allowed after the Christmas break. The game sessions are 75 minutes in length
Scores are kept and displayed. If there is a point differential of more than 25 points the coaches have the option to discontinue showing the score. Scores will only be recorded for standings up to a 25 point differential, which discourages any team from trying to run up the score.
All teams make the playoff tournament and get a minimum of two games.
When drafting teams we take into account the nights of availability for each player, their evaluation results and any other activities they participate in. The league does everything possible to distribute the skill levels evenly across all the teams.
*WE DO NOT ACCEPT PLAYER PLACEMENT REQUESTS*
Team practices will be held at the same time in the same facility each week for 1 1/2 hours. Grade 5-8 divisions will be considered a city wide program, due to this we can not guarantee the team's practice facility will be in your end of the city. Teams will play weekly on Saturdays for 1 1/4 hours between 9:00am-3:00pm. Times can change from week to week. Game schedules are based on playing all team's in the division, gym locations will be throughout the city.
Player Development Clinics
All new players in the Grade 5 & 6 division will be automatically registered to the first New Player Clinic. We will follow up with all new players with the details. This year the RCBA is looking to expand and add more clinics that will help develop athletic skills, as well as basketball skills. Stay tuned for more info!
